The Punjab government is all set to roll out a groundbreaking initiative — the E-Taxi Scheme for youth, offering interest-free electric vehicles to promote clean transport and generate employment across the province.
This forward-looking project is a major part of the CM Maryam Nawaz’s vision for 2025, focused on making transport more sustainable while empowering the unemployed youth, women, and underserved communities.
1100 Electric Vehicles in First Phase
According to Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, the scheme’s first phase will distribute 1,100 electric taxis. These vehicles will be offered through interest-free monthly installment plans, allowing eligible youth to become owners and drivers without any financial burden.
Why the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme Matters
-
✅ Zero-emission electric taxis to fight air pollution
-
✅ Interest-free installment plans for easy ownership
-
✅ Special focus on women, rural youth & disabled individuals
-
✅ Job creation and skill development opportunities
-
✅ Charging stations every 3 km in Lahore (more across Punjab)
The scheme includes locally assembled electric vehicles like the Honri VC20 and VC30, offering travel ranges of 200 to 300 km per charge, thanks to a partnership with Dewan Motors.
Launch Expected Soon
With over 60,000 applications already submitted, the Punjab government plans to officially launch the scheme through advertisements in the coming weeks. Application criteria will be simple, encouraging participation from all regions of the province.
This E-Taxi program is expected to redefine urban transport in Punjab — creating a cleaner, cost-effective, and inclusive mobility system for a brighter future.
